We have all just returned from Figment in Jackson, MS where we couldn’t have been more thrilled with the reception of the Samplotron! It all came together amazingly well! Kids of all ages enjoyed climbing around and creating collaborative musical landscapes. That is to say, they loved swinging, climbing, and dancing and pushing the big buttons to make fun sounds.
Figment is a new participatory arts festival held just outside Jackson,MS in an Coca Cola Warehouse. There were 1250 attendees in total so we had quite a bit of foot traffic over the weekend. Everyone who saw Samplotron loved it. Children loved banging on the buttons and hearing the noises, and swinging and climbing on it. Teens and adults enjoyed the more complex musical structures we mapped and the beautiful screensaver patterns that created a very nice party background in the evenings. Parents enjoyed figuring out how it worked and watching their kids have fun. We had a couple cool dance performances which utilized the interesting shapes mixed with sound system, as well.
All in all, we couldn’t have been happier with the outcome. We’d like to thank everyone in Jackson for allowing us to participate in Figment and for supporting our efforts!
